CAS FAIR

This is been a special year for many reasons: We have passed a lot of time at home with our family, we have cooked a lot, we missed a lot of people, we have passed a lot of time with our devices, with the radio...But also is been a CAS year! And our Grade 12 students have worked hard to change this word or, at least, to make their contribution to it. For some of them is been a long a difficult path (some would say a torture;), for some of them (I hope) is been an opportunity to know themselves better and, for others is been an inspiration. For sure for all of them is been time invested in something they believed.

Usually we celebrate the end of our CAS program with a fair that Grade 12 organises, however, as a CAS coordinator, I didn't want to add them "extra work" in this intense period and I didn't want to create another online event (enough don't you think?) But I still would like to share with our community a small part, a split of their project. Again, this should be something that we all enjoy and, for this reason I asked them a picture to help us to "see" their project (with a few lines to explain it) and a creative reflection to, in a way, show themselves from inside. I don't hope we "understand", we like, or we say "wow", is more about: "oh! Look at this! I didn't know it!" or "nice"! That's all because CAS is not about showing up, is a personal growing path and I hope silences, pictures, quotes, poems...will help, will give us more than a screen.

A HUGE THANKS to the advisors: Without their time, their advises, their support, their other way of seeing the world and their way of believing in the students, CAS won't be possible.

Please, feel free to leave your comments and or opinions.

A family friend told me that the park near her house was always dirty so together we decided to clean it. We then looked into different creative ways to prevent people from littering and decided to do some signs.

In my CAS project I want to give people the chance to improve their cooking skills, so that they can cook for themselves and also try new dishes. So they can go to the supermarket and not always get the same ingredients for the same dishes/ingredients.

For two years CAS has been there,

always making itself aware.
It’s presence a comfort but sometimes a curse,
but what made it fun was that it could be so diverse.

A distraction from the DP, sometimes wanted, sometimes not,
but I think we could all say we gave it our best shot.
Doing what I liked that helped someone in some way,
made it all worthwhile anyway.

It has taught me so much, about the world and me,
how much I can do for it while making it adventuresome.

Being able to donate money to the Oasi with the help of the school and use the money to buy food. I was hopefully able to introduce the shelter to the school community and inspire people to participate or become interested in volunteering at the shelter.

Our CAS project is to clean, maintain and upkeep our local neighbourhoods, in order to better the environment and make a positive change in the community. What we do in order to do so, is clean any and all litter on the ground, as well as wipe off all graffiti that we deem unethical or made with the intent of ruining it. We are raising awareness about environmental cleanliness among our neighbourhoods and will create a mini-documentary that illustrates our process.

I used my passion for sewing (and took the opportunity to improve that skill) to make Covid-19 protective masks out of cloth, and donate them to the underprivileged. This addressed the issue of some people not being able to afford this item which has become obligatory in almost all social situations (and which is important for personal health), and it did so in an eco-friendly, sustainable, way, as cloth masks are washable and reusable.

In March last year, I went to volunteer at a large French NGO called ‘Les Restos Du Coeur’. There, I was given the opportunity to help at every stage of the charity, meaning the collecting of the food, the quality control, and the distribution. This charity however, does not just offer their service in terms of food provided, but they also help children and adults learn French through after school sessions which is why I decided to create games which could help those who needed to learn French or English.

My project was to teach young people the importance of politics and international conflicts. I believe that education is the most powerful tool we have to achieve world peace and happiness.

For Our CAS project we decided to tackle the issue of WEEE or Electronic waste, an issue which is often overlooked by people but that can still cause severe damages to the environment. From our initial idea of rasing awareness on this issue, we have gradually developed  our project into an idea of collecting from other members of our school community, as well as our families, electronic equipment which is damaged or not useful anymore, and then give it a new life by, reparing it, turning into something artistic or giving it another use.

8th of March and Women's day

 Dear all,

Because of the 8th of March, there will be some online events that, if followed and well reflected (maybe through a creative reflection) we could add as a CAS experience.

Some examples: https://www.instagram.com/p/CL1Qq2tnMca/

Of course, this system of following a group (at least 3 events from the same topic) can be added as a CAS. Please, contact me if you need any clarification.
